The nature of the emotional difficulty was the development of a sexual trauma caused by the sexual seduction of a child by a parent or parental surrogate. A real event was the cause of the trauma, not the fantasy or the wish fulfillment of one. The analysis of the sexual trauma was also based upon relationship issues. Trauma analysis was developed which focused on the real as well as unconscious aspects of the trauma (Ferenczi, 1988).
